My favorite scary movie would have to be the new released thriller, Mama. In this movie two little girls are basically kidnapped from their father who murdered their mom, but he knows he can't run for long with the girls so he attempts to kill them, but some mysterious ghost kills him before he can. The girls stay in a cabin far out in the woods living with the ghost who raises them for a few years, until they get discovered. And they become their uncle and his girlfriend's responsibility, but they come with many complications.
Victoria, the older sister seemed to me as the child I would've taken in because once she realized she could have a real family with her uncle and his girl friend. She was the child who was ready to leave the ghost Mama alone and forget about her. But the younger sister was naive. Every time Mama came to her Uncle's house to visit she would play with her or sometimes leave the house. But when others began to notice that the girls didn't come to their Uncle's alone Mama got protective. She saw the two girls as her own child whom she'd killed. So she tried to kill anyone in her way of being with the girls. Then Mama realized she had to kill the two girls for them to be with her forever. But in the end Mama could only take one, the younger sister.
This is my favorite scary movie because it doesn't end the typical way. Both sisters don't end up in a happy home. One sister actually dies, and it ends with no epilogue. Its just like hey one sister stays and one goes. Even the plot is different because the ghost we all would've thought was the girls mother isn't even their mom. There's just a coincidence that the girls call the ghost mama. But the way this whole movie is set up is backwards, but understandable. It's not your average scary movie and everyone doesn't end happily ever after.
